14 Hands is inspired by the unbridled spirit of the wild horses that once freely roamed eastern Washington and the Columbia River Valley. Measuring a modest fourteen hands in height—a “hand” equivalent to the width of one’s palm—these tenacious horses would travel down from the hills every day to drink from the mighty Columbia River and graze along the riverbank, then retreat back to cool off at night.

Washington State's wild horses have become living symbols of the adventurous nature of the American West. The essence of these horses lives on in the vast landscape that has sustained those determined enough to work it for generations. Loamy sand and gravel soils require a strong and determined grapevine, and our acclaimed vineyards revel in Washington’s world-class terroir.
With the fruit from the hardy vines, the 14 Hands Winery in Prosser handcrafts big, fruit-forward reds and crisp, juicy whites that pay tribute to the legend of the region. Like the untamed horses they honor with their name, the wild and wonderful wines pack a lot of character into each bottle.
Since being founded in 2005, making everyday wines that people enjoy drinking is has been their ultimate goal, so they often make decisions throughout the winemaking process based purely on taste. In the end, they want their wines to be smooth and fruit-forward, yet bold and complex—making approachable, easy-drinking wines that taste amazing by the glass, cup, or can.
