Chateau Ste. Michelle is the oldest winery in Washington State! Originally called American Wine Company when it was founded in 1954, it opened up a new line of wines called Chateau Ste. Michelle with legendary Napa Valley winemaker Andre Tchelistcheff in 1967. Andre helped build the line's reputation, as well as pioneer viticulture and winemaking in Washington State overall. In 1976 the French style Chateau was built and American Wine Company renamed itself after its acclaimed line of wines, Chateau Ste. Michelle.
